Winter Triticale (x Triticosecale) is an annual grass native to central and southern US states (such as Kansas, Oklahoma, and Washington) and has also been successfully introduced across North America as a non-invasive crop that can thrive in USDA Zones 3–10 as a cool-season annual. Reaching a mature height of 3–5 feet with an upright tillering growth habit, it features dark green leaf blades arising from a dense base and produces bristly, grain-filled heads. It thrives in well-drained loamy to clay soils and is ideal for overwintering cover cropping, spring pasture grazing, and silage harvest.
