Tufted Poppy (Eschscholzia caespitosa) is an annual or short-lived perennial forb native to Western US states (such as California) that can thrive in USDA Zones 7–10. Reaching a mature height of 6–15 inches with a low, tufted, branching growth habit, it features finely dissected, glaucous blue-green fern-like leaves and produces delicate, cup-shaped bright golden-yellow flowers. It thrives in dry, rocky or sandy foothill slopes, chaparral openings, and burns in full sun and is ideal for California native hillside revegetation, roadside wildflowers, and dryland slope cover.
Drought tolerant native annual with bright yellow flowers, blooming March to June. Prefers medium to fine textured soils in the grasslands of California’s Central Valley; up to 5,000 ft. elevation. Visited by native bumble bees.
