Toad Rush

Juncus bufonius

Toad Rush (Juncus bufonius) is an annual grass-like sedge native to US states nationwide (such as California, Oregon, Texas, and New York) that can thrive in USDA Zones 3–9 as a cool-season annual. Reaching a mature height of 3–10 inches with a delicate, tufted, branching growth habit, it features fine, thread-like green stems and produces tiny, scattered greenish flowers along the stems. It thrives in moist, compacted, or muddy soils along paths, ditches, and drying pools in full sun and is ideal for temporary damp soil cover and biofiltration swales.
