Historically common on dry habitats from low coastal dunes to grassy meadows and the high desert; up to 7,000 ft. elevation. Widely adaptable, suited for mass plantings or full sun wildflower gardens; tolerates clay soils. Seeds are a favorite of many birds. Attractive to butterflies and native bees.
