Teff Grass (Eragrostis tef) is an annual grass native to southern US states (such as Texas, Kansas, and Florida) and has also been successfully introduced across North America as a non-invasive crop that can thrive in USDA Zones 3–11 as a warm-season annual. Reaching a mature height of 2–4 feet with an upright, fine-stemmed growth habit, it features narrow, bright green leaf blades and produces large, open, feathery seed panicles. It thrives in a wide range of well-drained soils in full sun and is ideal for emergency summer forage, high-quality livestock hay, and erosion control cover cropping.
Teff is a very fine stemmed, warm season, annual grass. It is typically used for hay production because it cures very rapidly. Sometimes as fast as one day. The fine stems, pleasant aroma, and green color make it very appealing to horses and horse owners.
