Melilotus albus
Yellow Sweetclover / White Sweetclover (Melilotus officinalis / Melilotus albus) is an annual or biennial forb native to eastern and central US states (such as Ohio, Illinois, and Kansas) and has also been successfully introduced across North America as a non-invasive legume that can thrive in USDA Zones 3–9. Reaching a mature height of 2–6 feet with an upright, branching, deep-taprooted growth habit, it features trifoliate green leaves and produces long, slender spikes of sweet-scented yellow or white pea-like flowers. It thrives in dry to moist disturbed soils in full sun and is ideal for soil nitrogen fixation, mine land reclamation, and bee forage.
