Surge Triticale (x Triticosecale) is an annual grass native to central and northern US states (such as South Dakota, Nebraska, and Minnesota) and has also been successfully introduced across North America as a non-invasive crop that can thrive in USDA Zones 3–10 as a cool-season annual. Reaching a mature height of 3–5 feet with an upright sturdy growth habit, it features broad, blue-green leaves and produces heavy, awned seed spikes. It thrives in well-drained loamy soils and is ideal for high-tonnage spring silage, livestock pasture, and cover cropping.
