Sudangrass (Sorghum arundinaceum var. sudanese) is an annual grass native to southern US states (such as Texas and Oklahoma) and has also been successfully introduced across North America as a non-invasive warm-season forage crop that can thrive in USDA Zones 3–11 as a warm-season annual. Reaching a mature height of 4–7 feet with a tall, slender, fast-growing multi-stemmed growth habit, it features narrow green leaves and produces loose seed panicles. It thrives in warm, well-drained soils in full sun and is ideal for quick summer forage grazing, green manure cover cropping, and weed smothering.
Warm season, robust, annual, drought tolerant bunchgrass adapted to a wide range of soils but performs best in soils which are Warm and moist. Highly palatable and nutritious, used for summer pasture, silage or hay. Care must be exercised when grazed because of prussic and hydrocyanic acid content.
