Shell Leaf Penstemon

Penstemon grandiflorus
Shell-Leaf Beardtongue (Penstemon grandiflorus) is a perennial forb native to Central US states (such as Nebraska, Kansas, South Dakota, Minnesota, and Illinois) that can thrive in USDA Zones 3–8. Reaching a mature height of 2–4 feet with a tall, stout, unbranched growth habit, it features large, thick, shell-like glaucous blue-green leaves that clasp the stem and produces massive, pale lavender to pinkish-purple trumpet flowers. It thrives in dry, sandy prairies, gravelly bluffs, and roadsides in full sun and is ideal for dryland prairie restoration, sandy slope stabilization, and hummingbird/bee conservation.
