Pink Sand Verbena (Abronia umbellata) is a perennial or annual forb native to Western US states (such as California, Oregon, and Washington) that can thrive in USDA Zones 8–10. Reaching a mature height of 4–12 inches with a prostrate, trailing, succulent mat-forming growth habit, it features thick, sticky, oval green leaves and produces rounded, fragrant clusters of bright magenta-pink trumpet flowers. It thrives in loose coastal sand dunes and beach sands in full sun and is ideal for coastal sand dune stabilization, beach bank restoration, and specialized coastal pollinator support.
Drought tolerant annual; full sunlight. Fragrant purple or pinkish flowers seen as conspicuous clusters in the spring when this species forms dense carpets in open, sandy, locations. Occurs in solid patches or intermingled with other species.
