Oakbrush Sumac

Rhus aromatica
Skunkbush Sumac / Oakbrush Sumac (Rhus trilobata) is a perennial deciduous shrub native to Western and Central US states (such as Colorado, Utah, Arizona, New Mexico, and Kansas) that can thrive in USDA Zones 3–8. Reaching a mature height of 3–6 feet with a dense, spreading, multi-stemmed thicket-forming growth habit, it features aromatic, three-lobed dark green leaves that turn orange-red in fall and produces yellow flower clusters followed by hairy red berries. It thrives in dry, rocky slopes, canyons, and foothill scrub in full sun to partial shade and is ideal for slope erosion control, shelterbelts, and game bird food cover.
