Nodding Needlegrass (Nassella cernua) is a perennial grass native to Western US states (such as California) that can thrive in USDA Zones 7–10. Reaching a mature height of 1.5–3 feet with a slender, deep-rooted bunching growth habit, it features fine, rolled green leaf blades and produces graceful, drooping seed panicles with long, triple-bent awns. It thrives in dry, gravelly or clay foothill slopes, oak woodlands, and coastal sage scrub in full sun and is ideal for dryland slope erosion control, native California grassland restoration, and soil stabilization.
This is a perennial bunchgrass that grows between 2 to 3 feet tall. It is used in native grassland restoration and erosion control projects. This grass prefers full sun and is commonly found in dry, open habitats such as grasslands and chaparral.
