Ironweed

Vernonia fasciculata
Common Ironweed (Vernonia fasciculata) is a perennial forb native to Midwestern US states (such as Illinois, Iowa, Minnesota, and Wisconsin) that can thrive in USDA Zones 3–9. Reaching a mature height of 4–6 feet with an upright rigid growth habit, it features smooth, lance-shaped green leaves and produces flat-topped clusters of deep magenta to purple flower heads. It thrives in wet prairies, marshes, and stream banks and is ideal for wetland mitigation, riparian buffer creation, and late-summer bee forage.
