Intermediate Wheatgrass (Thinopyrum intermedium) is a perennial grass native to northern US states (such as Montana, Colorado, and Utah) and has also been successfully introduced across North America as a non-invasive agricultural grass that can thrive in USDA Zones 3–8. Reaching a mature height of 2–4 feet with an upright sod-forming growth habit, it features smooth green to blue-green leaves and produces stiff, erect seed spikes. It thrives in well-drained loamy to sandy soils in dryland areas and is ideal for agricultural forage production, pasture grazing, and erosion control.
