Goliath Oats (Avena sativa) is an annual grass native to southern US states (such as Texas, Georgia, and Kansas) and has also been successfully introduced across North America as a non-invasive crop that can thrive in USDA Zones 3–10 as a cool-season annual. Reaching a mature height of 3–5 feet with an upright clumping growth habit, it features broad, smooth green leaves and produces large, open panicles of drooping grain spikelets. It thrives in fertile, well-drained loamy soils in full sun and is ideal for agricultural grain production, forage crop rotation, and cover cropping.
Goliath Oats is a late maturing, multipurpose oat that can be used for grain, forage, or straw. This particular oat variety is tall with very good straw strength, medium high protein, and good test weight. Goliath Oats are very high yielding with excellent feed value as well as an excellent disease resistance package.
