Cool season, perennial bunchgrass found on a wide variety of habitats and sites. Widely distributed through much of the U.S. Adapted to moist areas that may be seasonally dry and tolerant of poorly drained soils. Highly palatable summer forage for livestock and wildlife with good potential as a revegetation species. Useful in mine reclamation; observed to have naturally established on coal mine tailings.
