California Barley (Hordeum brachyantherum subsp. californicum) is a perennial grass native to Western US states (such as California, Oregon, and Washington) that can thrive in USDA Zones 6–10. Reaching a mature height of 1–2 feet with an upright tufted growth habit, it features narrow green leaf blades and produces slender, bristly seed spikes. It thrives in seasonally wet grasslands, oak woodlands, and alkaline flats and is ideal for native grassland restoration, seasonal wetland stabilization, and forage cover.
